Nick Defreitas - Global Customer Support Manager
“I work with some of the smartest people I have ever met.”
The 3D printing industry is relatively unknown. However, it is a very interesting market, as it is ever growing and is about to burst. That is one of the reasons why I joined Ultimaker. I was extremely intrigued by what we are doing. There are so many applications for the technology, the possibilities are endless. Working at a tech-based company with some of the smartest people I have ever met provides those possibilities, and that’s what really sparked my interest.”
The honeymoon phase
I have only been with Ultimaker for three months, so you could say I am still in my honeymoon period. Right now, I am mostly observing and listening, because you can’t always make changes from the get-go. I want to understand how everything we do will impact business further down the line. Nevertheless, I was able to bring a team together that I am really proud of. We are aiming to be a high performing team that is able to help our customers as best as possible.
From my part that means making it easier for our partners, resellers, and users to do business with us, and for our customer service team to thrive. We are looking to automate our processes and make them more intuitive, to improve that experience for the end user. We want them to get things done in one or two clicks.
The people are by far the most interesting part about my job. My colleagues are always willing to take a quick meeting, make some changes or figure out a solution to a problem. They will roll up their sleeves and do it. It is a lot of fun and it gives me confidence in my work and my team. I have never felt out of my comfort zone due to the support and sheer amount of knowledge that everyone has. I really enjoy listening to them and how passionate they are about the product. The first three months have been absolutely wonderful.
The passion and the magic
One of the most important things at Ultimaker is passion. The passion for what we do, but also to want to help someone with their needs, to be able to make improvements, and to always have a positive outlook. It has to be in your DNA to make it work, you can’t teach it. Of Ultimaker's values - trust, transformation, openness, magic and involvement - magic appeals to me the most. Actually, when I first read magic as one of the values of Ultimaker, I didn’t really know what to think. But when I saw everything in motion, I was like ‘you know what, it really is magic what they do here’. Ultimaker loves to amaze. Not only with the technology, but also with the skills of our people. We don’t just sell a product, we sell a solution.
