The doors closed on the 23rd edition of the TCT Show on September 27, 2018, after three days of innovation, announcements, and product debuts. With over 300 exhibitors converging at the NEC in Birmingham, this year had the largest show floor in the event’s history, with each exhibitor ready to showcase game-changing design and manufacturing technologies to over 10,000 attendees.
Ultimaker had a large presence this year, and engineers and professionals who visited the Ultimaker booth were excited to discover the developing possibilities of FFF 3D printing. Ultimaker 3 and Ultimaker S5 3D printers lined the booth, and Ultimaker software demonstrations were available to enthusiastic onlookers, showing new features of our print preparation software Ultimaker Cura and our printer management software Cura Connect. Also on display was Owens Corning’s XSTRAND™ material, as well as the entire Ultimaker material range.
More than just plastic
Our key announcement this year was the new print core CC Red. Available to buy from November 2018, this ruby-tipped, 0.6 mm print core enables Ultimaker S5 users to print with composites such as XSTRAND™.
Emmanuel Vaquant, 3D Printing Specialist at Owens Corning, joined us on the booth to discuss the benefits of composite materials for FFF 3D printing. Together, we revealed how material profiles in Ultimaker Cura – which are developed and tested by Owens Corning's engineers – make it possible to print composite materials with minimal fuss.
Gordon Gunn of Sylatech also joined us on the booth, demonstrating how metal parts can be manufactured by using Ultimaker 3D printers and investment casting. Also present was seasoned CAD consultant and Ultimaker ambassador Steve Cox, who offered tips and advice about additive manufacturing processes.
Nuno Campos, Chief Marketing Officer of Ultimaker, had this to say: “We’re having lots of conversations that have been technical, lots of engineers coming to us. Conversations like this means we are having a good show. People coming to us for solutions is great and the R&D team have been taking some great enquiries.”
In conjunction with our announcement, we were recently excited to learn that International Data Corporation (IDC) published an IDC Innovators report championing Ultimaker as leaders in innovation, improving the performance of plastic-based 3D printing across a range of metrics.
See you at the next show!
We are always excited to attend TCT to share knowledge and see new developments in the industry. We’d like to thank Steve Cox, Gordon Gunn, Emmanuel Vaquant, and everyone who visited the Ultimaker booth.
