If Cura doesn’t recognize your Ultimaker when you want to upload firmware, there is an issue with the connection due to a software or hardware failure. By following the steps described below you can easily identify the problem and resolve it.
Check the connection
It's possible that the issue could simply be caused by a physical connection failure.
- Make sure the Ultimaker is connected to the power supply and turned on when uploading firmware.
- If using an Ultimaker 2 series, check if the USB cable is properly connected and if possible try another USB cable to rule out a USB cable failure. Please note that the Ultimaker 3 does not require a USB connection.
Another possible reason for the connection failure is a bug in Cura or problem with your computer or operating system (mainly with older versions). Therefore it is advised to check the following points:
- Check that the latest version of Cura is installed on your computer.
- Try connecting on a different computer, preferably with a different operating system.
If neither of the above-described options works for you, it's possible that there is a problem with the main board. In this case, please contact your local support department for further assistance.
