Update the Ultimaker S5 firmware

Periodically, a new version of the Ultimaker S5 firmware is released. To ensure that your Ultimaker S5 has the latest features, we recommend keeping the firmware updated. This can be performed on the Ultimaker S5 when connected to a network.

Update your Ultimaker S5 via the network

Before you can update to the latest version, you must install an intermediate firmware version (5.1.94). When installing firmware over network, the correct installation order is determined automatically.

  • Connect the printer to the network via Wi-Fi or Ethernet in the SYSTEM > Network menu.
  • Go to SYSTEM > Maintenance > Update firmware
  • Choose the stable version, which installs firmware 5.1.94.
  • Wait for the Ultimaker S5 to finish updating the firmware. The printer will restart.

The intermediate firmware is installed. To update to the latest version, perform the following steps:

  • Navigate to the update menu again.
  • Choose the new firmware under stable and install.

Updating your Ultimaker S5 via USB

If you are using firmware version 5.2.8 already, you can directly update to version 5.2.11.

If not, you must first install an intermediate firmware version (5.1.94). Follow these steps to update your printer:

Download 5.1.94 file 1 and file 2 (.tar.xz and .tar.xz.sig)

  • Place both files on the USB stick in the root directory
  • Insert the USB stick into USB port of your printer. Go to SYSTEM > Maintenance > Update firmware and select 5.1.94 in the update menu.
  • Wait for the Ultimaker S5 to finish updating the firmware. The printer will restart.

The intermediate firmware is installed. To update to the latest version, perform the following steps:

  • Download the new firmware. This time it is a single file (.swu)
  • Place the file on the USB stick in the root directory.
  • Insert the USB stick in the USB port of your printer. Go to SYSTEM > Maintenance > Update firmware, and select the new firmware in the update menu.
