This error can appear on your Ultimaker 3 or Ultimaker 3 Extended when you load a print core CC Red 0.6 into the print head. The information on this page will provide you with details regarding printing with a print core CC Red 0.6 on your Ultimaker 3.
The print core CC Red 0.6 is designed specifically to print with composite materials. The Ultimaker 3 is not optimized to print with abrasive materials. AA or BB print cores wear down quickly when printing with composite materials. Composite materials can also damage the feeder wheel of the Ultimaker 3.
The print core CC Red 0.6 contains a ruby nozzle tip which is harder than the standard brass nozzles. This ensures that the CC print core doesn’t wear down and guarantees the same print quality over many printing hours. The feeders of the Ultimaker S5 are designed for use with composite materials, but the Ultimaker 3 feeders are not, as composite materials erode the 'teeth' of the knurled wheel. If the knurled wheel is smooth, it can no longer grip the material. The filament can slip in the feeder, causing unreliable material flow and under-extrusion.
We encourage customers to use third-party materials with their printer. However, please note that when the use of third-party elements causes damage to the feeder wheel, it is excluded from warranty. When using a CC print core in your Ultimaker 3, please be aware of the associated risks. If your feeder has been damaged due to the use of composite materials, please contact your reseller to purchase a replacement. If printing with abrasive materials is an essential part of your workflow, you could consider looking into the Ultimaker S5 as an addition to your printer setup.
