Printing with generic material

When a 3rd party material that does not contain an NFC chip is loaded into the Material Station, an exclamation mark will be displayed in the corresponding bay within the configuration menu.

Tap the ‘!’ to view a list with available generic materials. Select your material type to start printing.

The user can then manually select the type of material that has been loaded from the materials list. The configuration menu will then display a generic material type, e.g. generic PLA, loaded.

Note: Generic material print jobs sent to an Ultimaker S5 can only be printed if the user manually selects a generic material type within the configuration menu of the Ultimaker S5.

Since Ultimaker Cura 4.3 it is no longer possible to begin a print by overriding the Ultimaker S5 configuration. For non-NFC tagged materials, use the generic material workflow described above.

Converting to generic profile

To print generic material print jobs with Ultimaker materials, the user can still convert the NFC detected material to generic using the interface.

  1. Click the loaded NFC material to open the material configuration menu
  2. Click ‘Select type’ to open the list of available generic material profiles
  3. Select the generic material of the same filament type
  4. The Material Station will now treat it as a generic material.
