Ultimaker at Formnext 2018

Recap: Formnext 2018, Frankfurt

  • News

Formnext is the leading global exhibition and conference on additive manufacturing, and an annual fixture in our exhibition calendar. Held at Frankfurt Messe, Formnext brought together experts from a wide range of industry sectors, such as automotive, aerospace, mechanical engineering, medical technology, electrical engineering, and many more.

The first day of Formnext kicked off with Ultimaker Senior VP of Product Management, Paul Heiden, hosting a crowded press conference together with representatives from DSM, BASF, Clariant and DuPont, who are part of Ultimaker’s Material Alliance Program.

This conference revealed the first available print profiles in Ultimaker Cura’s Marketplace and was followed by an in-depth discussion about the importance of the alliances initiated by Ultimaker, and the possible applications that will be unlocked by making our hardware and software compatible with many more materials.

The press conference coincided with the latest release of our print preparation software, Ultimaker Cura 3.6. This release introduces the Marketplace, enabling users to quickly and simply prepare jobs for a range of diverse materials, including composite, flame retardant, ESD, or transparent materials, coming from global leaders in the industry.

The Ultimaker booth

Our booth this year was the largest yet, and showed how Ultimaker is leading the way in the rapidly evolving 3D printing industry. Application examples of 3D printed jigs, fixtures, quality gauges, and prototypes demonstrated to visitors how large brands, such as L'OréalVolkswagen Autoeuropa, and ABB Robotics are using Ultimaker products to increase efficiency, conserve resources, optimize product time-to-market, and open up new opportunities in design and production. Our booth’s speaker stage gave visitors from our alliance program an opportunity to discuss the advantages of their materials and the wide range of applications they can unlock.

Ultimaker staff, ranging from Marketing to R&D, welcomed visitors and demonstrated the latest range of Ultimaker hardware and software products. Ultimaker S5 3D printers, complete with the new print core CC Red 0.6 were joined by several Ultimaker 3 printers churning out prints all day and night. Every Ultimaker printer featured on our booth was managed by Cura Connect, and our product experts showed the benefits of Ultimaker Cura’s Marketplace to excited onlookers.
