Introducing your 2020 Ultimaker Innovators

Matt Torosian and the Jabil team

Jabil Additive – Minnesota, USA

Based in Chaska, Minnesota, Jabil is one of the world’s largest manufacturing service providers – and a leader in manufacturing materials and processes. With more than 30 years of experience in the polymer industry, Matt Torosian serves as Director of Product Management and leads the Jabil team, which uses a polymer science approach to develop, system integrate, and measure materials’ performance on specific processes and platforms.

“We call this the MPM process and it – as well as the talented team and resources in Chaska – are introducing products that open new market applications that conventional molding and machining currently provide, at a fraction of the cost and 10 times the speed,” Matt says.

Jabil began funding this endeavor in 2017, with the goal of increasing the adoption of 3D printing with engineered materials developed from a material science perspective. Nevertheless, Matt sees the the additive manufacturing industry as “still in its adolescence” – an important, if challenging, stage during which many discoveries are being made, processes validated, and startling transformations possible as the adoption of 3D printing technology continues to increase.

I see the 3D printing industry moving toward serial production, using additive manufacturing as tool, just like CNC, machining, and injection molding.
