That means there\u2019s no better time to look back on our 3D printing highlights of last year, and to celebrate another 12 months of customer innovation. Keep reading for a quick rundown, and don\u2019t miss our predictions for the new year.<\/p><\/div>\n<section class=\"article-text\"><h2>The launch of the Ultimaker S5<\/h2>\n<p>In April at Hannover Messe, Germany, we released a new flagship 3D printer: the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/web-staging.ultimaker.com\/3d-printers\/ultimaker-s5\">Ultimaker S5<\/a>. And if that wasn\u2019t enough, the next day in Fort Worth, Texas, we announced something even bigger&#8230;<\/p>\n<h2>Our leading material alliance<\/h2>\n<p>Never before has a strategic alliance existed between a 3D printer manufacturer and multiple market-leading materials companies. So we thought Ultimaker should be the first.<\/p>\n<p>In collaboration with BASF, Du Pont, DSM, Clariant, Owens Corning, and many more, our April promise became a September reality with the launch of the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/web-staging.ultimaker.com\/learn\/the-marketplace-empowering-3d-printing-professionals-worldwide\">Ultimaker Cura Marketplace<\/a>.<\/p><\/section>\n<div class=\"article-image article-image--2-1 article-content__image\"><div class=\"article-image__container article-image__container--2-1\"><figure id=\"attachment_mmd_3994\" class=\"wp-block-image \"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1080\" height=\"540\" src=\"https:\/\/ultimaker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/Markerplace-OC-context.jpg\" class=\"attachment-full size-full\" alt=\"The Marketplace in Ultimaker Cura\" loading=\"lazy\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n<div class=\"article-image__caption\">Users can now download print profiles from third-party materials manufacturers optimized for 3D printing on the Ultimaker 3 and Ultimaker S5<\/div><\/div>\n<section class=\"article-text\"><p>Now our customers have even greater access to more materials, with preconfigured 3D printing profiles developed by their own materials companies. This functionality means that professionals around the world can be confident when embedding 3D printing into their existing workflows.<\/p>\n<p>CEO of Ultimaker, Jos Burger, is excited about the response to the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/web-staging.ultimaker.com\/learn\/alliances-with-leading-material-companies-to-deliver-choice-and-quality\">Ultimaker Material Alliance\u2019s announcement<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>There has been a huge amount of interest, to the point that we now have over 60 companies joining this alliance<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The new material range in the Ultimaker Cura Marketplace opens up huge possibilities in terms of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/explore.ultimaker.com\/unlock3dprintingapplicationswhitepaper\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">material properties and 3D printed applications<\/a>. The material profile library includes filaments with sophisticated properties, such as: carbon or glass fiber reinforcement, flame retardancy, electro-static discharge (ESD), UV resistance, and heat resistance. To enable the reliable 3D printing of composite materials on the Ultimaker S5, we also launched a new print core CC Red 0.6, which has a ruby-reinforced nozzle tip.<\/p>\n<h2>Sharing customer success<\/h2>\n<p>Throughout 2018, as part of their digital transformation and to retain their competitive edge, more and more companies invested in Ultimaker products to provide on-demand, local manufacturing. Across such a variety of industries, this adoption is testament to the versatility of Ultimaker\u2019s 3D printing technology \u2013 which is able to create a wide range of useful parts.<\/p>\n<p>Said Jos, adding: \u201cAll these developments are creating a multiplier effect and I am delighted that key industrial players among the world&#8217;s leading material companies have joined us in promoting and supporting 3D printing on a global scale.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2>Event highlights in 2018<\/h2>\n<p>After Hannover, we attended events throughout the year. For example,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/web-staging.ultimaker.com\/learn\/recap-construct3d-2018-georgia-tech-atlanta-georgia\">Construct3D<\/a>\u00a0in Atlanta, Georgia and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/web-staging.ultimaker.com\/learn\/recap-formnext-2018-frankfurt\">Formnext<\/a>\u00a0in Frankfurt, Germany. These exhibitions gave customers a chance to meet the Ultimaker team, and get a closer look at our 3D printing hardware, software, and materials.<\/p><\/section>\n<div class=\"article-image article-image--2-1 article-content__image\"><div class=\"article-image__container article-image__container--2-1\"><figure id=\"attachment_mmd_4008\" class=\"wp-block-image \"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1080\" height=\"540\" src=\"https:\/\/ultimaker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/Formnext-delegates-visit-the-Ultimaker-booth.jpg\" class=\"attachment-full size-full\" alt=\"Formnext-delegates-visit-the-Ultimaker-booth\" loading=\"lazy\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n<div class=\"article-image__caption\">At Formnext 2018, delegates visited the Ultimaker booth to learn more about the Ultimaker S5 and its ability to print with composite materials<\/div><\/div>\n<section class=\"article-text\"><p>One big difference in this year\u2019s delegates was that we met fewer engineers interested only in the technical advantages of Ultimaker, and more managers and executives. Jos concluded that this change is thanks to the increasing maturity of 3D printing technology:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The 3D printing industry is clearly on the agenda of top-level executives and decision makers.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h2>Company updates<\/h2>\n<p>To help keep pace with this rapid industry growth, we will soon move to new, bigger offices in the center of the Netherlands. And to help businesses find the right solution and to strengthen our sales in the Asia-Pacific region, we opened\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/web-staging.ultimaker.com\/learn\/company-update-ultimaker-opens-new-singapore-office\">new offices in Singapore<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Ultimaker also passed significant milestones in certification. In October, we celebrated\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/web-staging.ultimaker.com\/learn\/company-update-ultimaker-achieves-iso-9001-and-iso-14001-with-flying-colors\">achieving ISO 9001 and ISO 14001<\/a>\u00a0in business management, which confirms our ability to provide high-quality products and services that are continuously improving.<\/p><\/section>\n<div class=\"article-image article-image--2-1 article-content__image\"><div class=\"article-image__container article-image__container--2-1\"><figure id=\"attachment_mmd_4012\" class=\"wp-block-image \"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1080\" height=\"540\" src=\"https:\/\/ultimaker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/Ultimaker-ISO-Certification-9001-14001-hero.jpg\" class=\"attachment-full size-full\" alt=\"Ultimaker-ISO-Certification-9001-14001-hero\" loading=\"lazy\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n<div class=\"article-image__caption\">Paul Heiden (left) and Jos Burger (right) show off our newly achieved ISO 5001 and 14001 certificates<\/div><\/div>\n<div class=\"article-image article-image--2-1 article-content__image\"><div class=\"article-image__container article-image__container--2-1\"><figure id=\"attachment_mmd_4018\" class=\"wp-block-image \"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1080\" height=\"540\" src=\"https:\/\/ultimaker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/3D_prints_in_medicine.jpg\" class=\"attachment-full size-full\" alt=\"3D prints in medicine\" loading=\"lazy\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n<div class=\"article-image__caption\">The Ultimaker S5 is now FDA-approved for point-of-care 3D printing with Mimics inPrint software<\/div><\/div>\n<section class=\"article-text\"><p>Two months later, we gained\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/web-staging.ultimaker.com\/press\/58-ultimaker-gains-certification-as-part-of-materialise-510k-cleared-mimics-inprint-software\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">501(k) FDA approval<\/a>\u00a0for point-of-care 3D printing in US hospitals, using the Ultimaker S5 with Materialise\u2019s Mimics inPrint software.<\/p>\n<h2>And our predictions for 2019?<\/h2>\n<p>The last 12 months have been a blast, and we promise that 2019 will be a year of exciting developments as part of the constantly changing 3D printing industry.<\/p>\n<p>For Ultimaker, the coming year will be an important one as we seek to deliver leading 3D printing solutions that allow businesses to invest with greater confidence.
