Principalmente prototipos, pero también plantillas y accesorios, así como piezas de uso final que antes eran imposibles de fabricar”, afirma Job van de Sande, director de tecnología de sellado y polímeros de ERIKS en Países Bajos. "También hemos podido identificar varias docenas de piezas de seguridad personalizadas que realmente nos han permitido mejorar la seguridad de nuestras instalaciones de producción".

La seguridad es la clave en ERIKS. Y un entorno limpio es un entorno seguro, uno en el que el trabajo se puede realizar de forma más eficiente. Por lo tanto, la empresa ve los factores de seguridad como una parte integral e indispensable de los objetivos y plazos, como los objetivos de producción y los márgenes de beneficio. 

Una tecnología como la impresión 3D encaja perfectamente en ERIKS, especialmente en su uso para la creación de herramientas que mejoran la seguridad in situ. Una de estas herramientas, por ejemplo, se coloca encima de un rollo de película de embalaje de tamaño casi humano, transformando la tarea de retirar y reemplazar el rollo en un trabajo rápido y seguro de una sola persona.

Otro accesorio impreso en 3D sostiene un tramo de tubería en su lugar para que un brazo robótico pueda soldarlo con mayor precisión. También hay una plantilla que funciona de la misma manera, pero está diseñada para que la utilicen soldadores humanos. Incluso los cabezales de impresión de la Ultimaker se colocan uno al lado del otro en un soporte especialmente impreso. Por modestas que parezcan estas piezas y los cambios que hacen posibles, juntas producen grandes resultados: ahorran tiempo, dinero y potencialmente salvan vidas. 

"Con la impresión 3D hemos podido ahorrar 350 000 euros en nuestras instalaciones de producción, al aumentar el rendimiento de nuestros productos y eliminar diversos riesgos de seguridad", asegura Job.

Piezas "certificadas" desarrolladas conjuntamente 

La limpieza y la impresión 3D también representan conjuntamente una oportunidad para que ERIKS proporcione un servicio valioso a sus clientes.  

"Vemos que esta tecnología ofrece a nuestros clientes grandes oportunidades", explica Job. "Sin embargo, es muy difícil detectar esas oportunidades en una empresa. Lo que hacemos nosotros es realizar una exploración del lugar junto con el cliente y luego empezamos a identificar y desarrollar esas oportunidades juntos".

After a site scan, parts are designed by either clients themselves or ERIKS engineers, then printed using Ultimaker S5 printers at the Alkmaar facility. These rooms act as environmentally controlled areas in which the printing process can be closely monitored, resulting in "certified" parts – guaranteeing not only quality and efficacy, but reproducibility and reliability.

"This means that customers can order [a part] today or one year from now and will receive the same part, with the same mechanical properties," Job said.

No obstante, si los clientes quieren más control y son parte del ecosistema de Ultimaker, pueden solicitar un archivo en lugar de una pieza física e imprimirlo ellos mismos, internamente. Esta es una de las razones principales por las que ERIKS eligió Ultimaker. Con la puesta en marcha de las instalaciones de fabricación limpia, ERIKS ya ha comenzado a sentar las bases para el futuro. Este espacio cumple la normativa EC1935/2004 para sus actividades de impresión 3D, tiene áreas dedicadas a la producción limpia y una sala limpia ISO Clase 6 a gran escala. Además de la conformidad con las normas de la seguridad alimentaria europea, ERIKS está trabajando actualmente para obtener la conformidad de la FDA, lo que le permitirá crear piezas impresas en 3D seguras para alimentos, que se puedan utilizar en todo el mundo. Se tomarán medidas similares para las normas ISO farmacéuticas y médicas.
