How to get a successful first print with an Ultimaker certified material

When you print with a new material, you want the confidence that your prints are going to come out perfect. Not just the first time, but every time. We combined our expertise with that of a trusted material partner to give you that confidence.

The result was our first Ultimaker certified material, the LUVOCOM 3F PAHT® 9825 NT by LEHVOSS Group.

What is an Ultimaker certified material?

Materials in Ultimaker material station

The Ultimaker marketplace offers over 250 materials that cover almost every use case imaginable. We are proud that our users have access to such a varied selection of materials.

However, until now, the only materials on the marketplace that have been specifically tested and approved by us as best-in-class are the ones made by Ultimaker. With the release of our first certified material, that changes.

Certified materials are third-party materials that have been tested and validated by Ultimaker. Anyone printing with an Ultimaker certified material can be confident that the print profiles, material data sheets, and material itself, are all of the highest quality and tailored to help you print perfectly.

Certified materials have global availability at our resellers meaning you can buy them at the same place you bought your Ultimaker printer. They also have NFC chips on each spool just like Ulimaker’s own materials, meaning that when you put the material on the spool-holder of your Ultimaker, it will automatically recognize which material you’re using and load up the appropriate print profile.

Better yet, to help guarantee you get your first print perfect, each spool comes with a QR code on the box that leads you to a getting-started page with test models, calibration instructions, and troubleshooting info. Everything you need for a worry-free first print.

All of this means that you can remove the uncertainty that comes with using a new material and be confident in getting the results you want, reliably and repeatedly.

Why the LUVOCOM 3F PAHT® 9825 NT?

Lehvoss printed part

The LUVOCOM 3F PAHT® 9825 NT is the perfect choice for our first certified material as it comes from one of our most trusted material partners and it covers use-cases that are not addressed by our existing first-part materials.

This polyamide-based material has a number of properties that make it exceptionally functional. One is a high temperature-resistance, with prints handling temps of up to 160 °C. Another is its unprecedented dimensional accuracy with tolerances of less than 0.3mm on 10cm parts (when printed on a well-calibrated printer). The material also does not warp, making prints even more accurate and reproducible.

The LUVOCOM 3F PAHT® 9825 NT is also tough, with strength characteristics similar to PA6 (a polyamide-based material widely used in injection molding and other industries) without sacrificing printability.

All of this adds up to a material that is perfect for industrial applications such as tools, jigs, fixtures, and other manufacturing aids. As well as any part that requires extremely tight tolerances.

And better yet, this material works best when paired with an Ultimaker printer. Don’t just take our word on it. As part of validating this material for certification, we 3D scanned prints made with the material on both an Ultimaker S5 using our Engineering profiles and a competing printer with equivalent settings. The result was a 6.2% increase in how much of the part was accurate to within ± 0.2mm. You can find more details here.

The tested and validated combination of both printer, and material. Along with first-time user instructions and professionally crafted print profiles, means that there are less hurdles in the way of a perfect first print than ever before.

The key to making sure your first print is successful is to choose the right model to print. We recommend using one of the test prints included with the first-time user instructions. If you’re too eager to wait and you want to start printing functional parts right away, try starting with a small, simple part. Ideally one that has no overhangs or complex geometries that require supports. Make sure to try printing with the recommended intent profiles in Ultimaker Cura before you start customizing any of your print settings.

For the best guidance on how to use both your Ultimaker printer and the Ultimaker Cura slicer, we recommend using the onboarding courses available in the Ultimaker Academy.

As long as you take your time and follow the abundant guidance available to you, while also using an appropriate 3D model, you should have no problem getting an amazing first print using our new certified material. And then, many amazing prints after that.

We hope you’re as excited about our first certified material as we are. If you want to try the LUVOCOM 3F PAHT® 9825 NT for yourself, head to the Ultimaker Marketplace and grab some for yourself!
